More Firefox addons for you

In the first post of this topic here, I told you about 5 very useful Firefox addons. Now I bring you more of the same. Its not that I’m tempting you to slow down your Firefox or something. Its just that they’re all so good.

I would recommend you not to install a lot of extensions for your browser. Having too much of a good thing isn’t very good.

Now lets see what we’ve got this time around. Its a pretty nice collection of addons. But I’ll tell you, This ain’ the half of it!

(1) DownThemAll!: This is officially the first and only download manager built inside Firefox. This thing is said to increase the download speed by 400%. Now I don’t really know how much of this is true. But I can tell you this. Its really good. Oh ya… it has the old pause/resume function for downloads too. It has a damn simple interface. It integrates into Firefox’s save/open dialog and it does it well. Once you have supondefined where you want your files downloaded, it makes it default. You can even save webpages with this little tool.

(2) StumbleUpon: Now if you are anything like me you will really want something like this. You might have heard of it anyway. It, as an addon, just adds a toolbar to Firefox and of course to use it you need an account at stumbleupon. Once you have got that

account this toolbar is all you need. Basically what it does is,take you to those sites which others have reviewed and added to it. Click Stumble and it takes you to a lot of cool websites, in any (or all) category. You can also use this to promote your own website πŸ™‚ .

If you like a page its always nice to give it a thumbs up!piclens

(3) Piclens: Are you a pic freak? Then this is for you! You can search for videos and images in 3D! How cool is that?? It can search from Google, Yahoo, Flickr, Photobucket, Youtube and a few more sites. What you get is a wall (Pitch Black), onto which your search results will be stuck. Its really cool I say. But there are a few drawbacks. It doesn’t search on the sites other than the ones it is supposed to. 😦 . But don’t worry. Its pretty good anyway. A new feature is that you have a feed of videos and images. It can get you anything from categories like US news, around the web to Technology and movies. Neat huh?

Don’t think. Just get it.

(4) Firefox Universal Uploader (FireUploader): This extension helps you vdhelperdownload/upload files from/to sites like box.net, Facebook, Youtube, Webshots etc. When you upload to a site there are quite a few restrictions. Well for one, there’s no info shown when you are uploading. FireUploader gives you all the information you have ever wanted on that file you are uploading. It can upload a heck of a lot of files at the same time (of course, time required depends on your net connection). You can also upload files to different websites at the same time too. This is one thing to get if you’re a serious uploader.

(5) VideoDownloadHelper: Well there’s really nothing to say about this extension. The name does the work. Just for the formality, let me tell you. It downloads videos and images off the net for you. And if you don’t want the videos of yours to be in .flv (downloaded from Youtube) or just want it in a better format it also provides an option to convert the downloaded videos. It also works with MySpace, Google videos, DailyMotion, Porkolt, iFilm, DreamHost and others.

About Jayghosh Rao

This person of slightly inadequate height compensates for his not-too-short stature by being extremely annoying. Oh, wait. That's not a positive quality, is it? But heck, that's who I am. I am a decent acquaintance and an annoying friend. I like doing nothing, wasting time on a computer, learning about random things, watching TV, movies, and cartoons, writing an occasional article, talking philosophy and science, home-made food, and, of course, hanging out with friends and annoying them. I am currently pursuing MSc. in Simulation Sciences at German Research School, RWTH Aachen University, Aachen. And I'm loving it.
